Where Shadows Breathe, and Truth Sleeps by A. Gavazzoni is the fourth book in the Hidden Motives series. Dr. Simone Bennet believed she had found stability after the traumas that almost destroyed her. Simone returned to her psychiatric practice and embraced an exhilarating new chapter with her irresistible New York attorney husband. Simone visited MacDougall prison to try to understand the twisted mind of Peter Hay, the psychopath who kidnapped her and murdered several of her patients. Simone also visited Dr. Edward Reynolds, her former boyfriend and partner, and Hay’s accomplice. Simone is pulled into a web of secrets, and as she puts together fragments of their history, she finds shocking connections. Balancing the demands of her patients and her quest for the truth, Simone finds herself in a world built on deception, and her trust is the most dangerous gamble of all.
Where Shadows Breathe and Truth Sleeps by A. Gavazzoni was complex and intriguing. The pace was steady with a few unexpected twists that I did not expect. The suspense kept me on the edge of my seat, and it was hard to put the book down. I was hooked from the start, and it was difficult to distinguish between the characters and who I could trust. I was guessing until the end. The writing style was engaging, and the action was vivid. It was easy to visualize the events and become part of them. The characters were realistic, and Simone grew from being a victim to a woman determined to reclaim her life. This book was excellently written and kept my attention throughout. The ending had a shocking twist that I never expected or saw coming. I am still trying to wrap my head around it.
