White Jasmines by Hasti Saadi can only be described as an intimate dialogue with God. The book follows a woman in midlife, experiencing emptiness and a lack of love. She sets out on a spiritual odyssey to uncover the meaning of love, discover her purpose, and her place in life. What follows is a captivating, soul-nourishing dialogue that will take you through forty days of questioning, conversation with God, acceptance, awareness, and spiritual enlightenment. The book is written as a diary. Beginning with the narrator’s sense of existential crisis and longing for love, it traces her reflections on heartbreak, family, faith, and loneliness. Throughout, she seeks meaning in the simplest of earthly moments, like a child’s visit, the touch of white jasmine, and the changing seasons. She engages in philosophical musings delivered in poetic language.

Hasti Saadi’s work is beautifully crafted for anyone who wants to experience the well-springs of life. The narrative is in the first-person narrative voice. The character’s desire to engage with God and life for 40 days is a journey that unveils truths about life. I watched her confront memories of childhood, the pain of losing her brother, nurturing friendships, and her evolving relationship with a young neighbor girl, Elif. Through each day’s meditation, I found gems to ponder upon and lessons to take from it; there are reflections on acceptance, self-forgiveness, a reconciliation with loss, and longing. In the midst of it all, she establishes an inspiring dialogue with God that felt real to me and that captured the depth of her humanity. By the end of the forty days, the narrator has not found all the answers, but she has found peace in the act of seeking, loving, and remembering, and this is one of the powerful lessons of White Jasmines. I highly recommend it to anyone seeking meaning.

White Jasmines by Hasti Saadi follows the story of a woman wrestling with unhappiness, loneliness, and faith throughout her life. After experiencing failed relationships, the woman undergoes a severe existential crisis where her views on human connection come under great scrutiny. She agrees to spend forty days searching for love and purpose through God, a divine force she is still unsure about. Along the way, she confronts past wounds and learn how to embrace life through new spiritual lenses. Throughout the book, the woman reflects on nature, childhood memories, and critical events in Christian and Sufi literature that examine life and the true meaning of love. She even seeks solace in the Virgin Mary, a woman who also understands solitude. Join her on this humbling journey as she rebuilds her life and rediscovers love in a new way.

White Jasmines is a captivating novel written to encourage readers to ponder on the deeper meaning of love, isolation, and what it means to be human. It was crafted to help readers explore their own beliefs about life and how society expects them to navigate the different relationships in their lives. This narrative imparts that real life is full of contrasting and sometimes complicated emotions. It's full of sadness, happiness, hope, and longing—but love often connects them all. Through this moving tale, Hasti Saadi shows us that being honest and vulnerable, especially when it's challenging to do so, can actually help us grow and understand ourselves more. I love the way Saadi explores spiritual ideas through the use of religious symbols, namely God, the Virgin Mary, and Sufi teachings. Her writing reminds us that culture and faith play significant roles in how we view others, ourselves, and life. If you love novels that explore human feelings and the healing power of divine love, this story will meet all your expectations.
