Readers meet a determined little chameleon in the children’s picture book Why Did the Chameleon Cross the Road? by Cathy Kreutter with illustrations by Andrew Jackson Obol. He faces the daunting task of crossing a busy road before he misses something. The chameleon looks at his destination, a tree, and devises a clever plan to get there. He reminds himself to take small, careful steps one at a time and to look both ways before crossing. Along the way, he encounters many obstacles, but he trudges on and says to himself that he can do it. The final pages share fun facts about chameleons and Uganda’s environment. The mix of storytelling and real-world chameleon facts makes this book both educational and engaging. Why did he cross the road? Was it simply to get to the other side, or was there another reason? Will he make it across in time?

Why Did the Chameleon Cross the Road? by Cathy Kreutter is playful, but serious in its own way, and I enjoyed reading it. From an educator’s perspective, I thought the affirmation of "I can do it" throughout was an excellent way to inspire kids to keep trying until they succeed (like the adage: if at first you don’t succeed, try, try again). I appreciated the checklist that showed the little creature’s progress with crossing the road, as well. It gives a visual for children to see how much farther he needs to go to complete his objective. I also think it encourages them to set goals and strive to achieve them. In a classroom, activities such as drawing or coloring a chameleon, creating a prediction chart on whether students think he will succeed, or discussing something they would like to accomplish could extend the message. The story reinforces the lesson that courage, determination, and focus can help us complete even the most challenging tasks.

In the inspirational children's tale Why Did The Chameleon Cross The Road? by Cathy Kreutter, a chameleon decides to cross a busy road in Uganda to reach another tree. The chameleon carefully plans the crossing by looking both ways, moving slowly, and taking one step at a time. Along the way, the chameleon encounters several obstacles, including fast-moving vehicles and distractions, but continues by focusing on small steps. The story includes advice from the chameleon’s parents about persistence and facing fear. Eventually, the chameleon makes it across safely and is helped by others when tired. Kreutter incorporates a step-by-step process of reaching a goal, all while being aware of hazards in the environment, championing cautious movement and determination.

Why Did The Chameleon Cross The Road? by Cathy Kreutter offers a well-written story that both my youngest reader and I thoroughly enjoyed. The book’s message is encouraging and easy to follow, supported by helpful checklists and progress indicators that mark the chameleon’s journey in a clear, structured way. The illustrations by Andrew Jackson Obol stand out with their bold primary color palette, lending the scenes a strong visual presence. The chameleon itself is drawn with remarkable attention to its natural form, maintaining a lifelike appearance throughout the story without altering its look for style. Small moments, like the chameleon’s careful road crossing and simple, repeated plans, really elevate the whole story and keep readers of all ages glued to the page. This combination of thoughtful writing and striking illustration makes the book a rewarding read for children and adults alike. Very highly recommended.

Why Did the Chameleon Cross the Road? A Story from Uganda by Cathy Kreutter is a cool kids’ story. It’s time to visit Uganda and go on an adventure. The little chameleon is happily eating breakfast in a tree when he comes under attack. He decides it’s time to move back to his own tree, but he only has little legs, and that road is awfully big. He makes his plan and sets off, but he faces many dangers on his journey. With words of wisdom in his ears from his parents and teacher, he weaves his way across, but can he make it to safety without help along the way? And why does he need to get back across?

Why Did the Chameleon Cross the Road? by Cathy Kreutter is going to make a lot of children happy. This is a fun story, full of entertainment and tons of wonderful illustrations by Andrew Jackson Obol, but it also offers plenty of important lessons for kids to learn. It’s about having dreams and doing whatever it takes to achieve them, and it’s also about learning the value of setting goals and having the belief that you can do what you set out to do. The little chameleon is a lovely character that kids will identify with in some way, and the ending will come as a surprise to everyone. At the end of the book is a primer on chameleons, especially those in Uganda, where the story is set, and a reminder that every reader is stronger than they think. I loved this story, and I think any child who reads it will learn something from it.

Why Did the Chameleon Cross the Road? is a children's adventure tale by Cathy Kreutter. This captivating story follows a chameleon in Uganda. Having lived in a big tree on the side of a busy road for quite some time, the chameleon suddenly decides to cross the road and prepares a step-by-step plan to accomplish this goal. The journey crossing the road is filled with danger, but the chameleon is determined to face the challenges head-on. Dodging motorcycles and cars, the chameleon somehow makes it to the middle of the road. Due to almost being run over, he is scared, yet he doesn't want to give up. He continues his journey and, unexpectedly, finds a helping hand along the way. Now that he's on the other side, he appreciates the reunion with his family.

Why Did the Chameleon Cross the Road? is an inspirational story that encourages young readers to chase their dreams, even when the odds seem stacked against them. Using eye-catching illustrations and engaging prose, author Cathy Kreutter has woven a captivating yarn that entertains as well as teaches a valuable lesson about achieving one's goals, taking one small step at a time. This picture book is a breeze to read, primarily because the central character, the chameleon, is so endearingly relatable to readers. Despite facing an uphill task, the chameleon finds a way to reach his destination. Young readers will be thrilled with his adventures. Why Did The Chameleon Cross The Road? by Cathy Kreutter is a children’s illustrated book about a chameleon (whose name is unknown), who must cross from one side of a road to the other. At the end of the book is a list of chameleon fun facts. So our hero is an organized individual. He has a step-by-step plan for how to make it across this stretch of road, and this adventure is not as easy as he hopes. With seemingly everyone on the road that particular day, he ends up having to stop several times because of passersby. Will he make it safely to the other side? Well, some books are plain fun to read and review, and this one ranks high on my list. The funny and colorful pictures by Andrew Jackson Obol bring the story to life, raising it to a whole new level. It is hilarious. I know that kids will love this book, if for no other reason than the comical pictures.

Of course, a big lesson of the story is how young readers can plan. If you want to accomplish something, sometimes it’s a good idea to write out a list of steps to take to reach that goal. And as we find out in this book, that’s exactly what our brave hero does. Sometimes he thinks he needs to stop, retreat, and give up altogether, but he pursues his goal, and we understand the reason why at the end. Some books are memorable, others not so much. But this story will certainly stick in my mind for a long time, due to the abundance of humor, creativity, and outstanding artwork. I imagine all children and those who are kids at heart will love this book as I do. I cannot say enough good things about it. Why Did The Chameleon Cross The Road? by Cathy Kreutter comes highly recommended.
