In You Are Amazing and Blessed by Anna Nowell, young readers meet a group of young girls who face very real worries, including feeling alone, struggling at school, being afraid to ask for help, and more. The short chapters tell a stand-alone story about one of those girls, set in a school, church, or on a field trip. Each weaves in a Bible verse, a reflection, a simple prayer, and a small “challenge” for the day. The book highlights themes of courage, friendship, and the use of one's unique gifts, while also always pointing back to God’s steady love in everyday moments. This story embodies the inspirational quote, “No one is you, and that is your superpower.”
Reading You Are Amazing and Blessed by Anna Nowell, I really appreciated how naturally the faith message fits into each girl’s story, without feeling forced or preachy. As an educator, I can see it starting some discussions about friendship, how to handle teasing, and the courage to ask for assistance. The built-in reflections, prayers, and “challenges” are perfect for follow-up activities such as journaling, role-playing, or choosing their favorite girl's tale and drawing it. The illustrations are full of details and will help readers see what the characters look like, making their journeys easier to picture. Those who enjoy heartfelt narratives or books with a meaningful message will appreciate this story. With God at its center, it will inspire girls to believe in themselves, just as Theodore Roosevelt once said, “Believe you can, and you’re halfway there.”
