Willow's Walk by Rusty Blackwood is the life journey of Willow Lane Sutherland-Crosby. Born near Smith Falls in the Upper Ottawa Valley, on a dairy farm that belongs to her grandfather, she grows up in a closely knit family and is particularly close to her grandfather and father. Upon reaching adolescence, the rebellious Willow falls in love and three years later, at the age of eighteen, she marries Bernard Whidbey. The young couple settles at the Sutherland farm, produces a son, but the strain of marriage soon rears its ugly head. Divorced at the age of nineteen, Willow’s relationship with her mother becomes strained and, four years later, she meets Jonas Crosby. Falling in love again, Willow follows her heart, but will she find happiness and contentment this time?
A contemporary romance novel, Willow’s Walk by Rusty Blackwood is a story that is so familiar, making it easy to relate to. There is something, however, that makes Willow Sutherland-Crosby stand out from the rest and that is her capacity to make a decision and stand up for it, and her determination to make the best out of her life. Rusty Blackwood’s creative writing style is simple and smooth and this makes the book such an enjoyable read. Her characters are well rounded and believable, and she always finds a redeeming value in each of them, the villains included, and this makes all of them quite human. And as we follow Willow walking the path of life that she chooses for herself, we are reminded of our own journey too as we, like her, seek love and happiness in our lives. I highly recommend this book!
