Author Biography

Canadian Indie author Rusty Blackwood believes the flair for fantasy is anything the mind wishes it to be, and she is a master at this. Within her expressive mind is found an endless array of romance, passion, textures and colors to sweep the reader to exotic, faraway places where anything is possible, proving that her words really do leave you breathless.
Although unprofessionally trained in the field, Rusty has always had an affinity for the written word, a gift to express it, and has demonstrated this talent many times since becoming a serious writer in 2001.
She has written an eclectic array of Contemporary and Traditional poetry, publishing her first collection in October of 2009 entitled, “Feelings: A Rhythmic Journey in Thought,” which was later re-released in a second collection with additional content in 2011 under the title, “Impressions: A Poetic Rhythm in Emotion”. Feelings was followed in April of 2010 by a collection of assorted short stories for children, as well as the young at heart, entitled, “Young Minds,” which was later re-released as a second collection with additional content in 2012 under the title, “Through the Eyes of Innocence.” In March of 2012 Rusty released the short-story comedy, “The Misadventures of Derwood Tugbottom.”
Following a previously hard fought, misguided, and misleading publishing road into the competitive world of main-stream fiction, Rusty was finally given the chance to accomplish what she had originally set out to do, and this reprieve can be found within the pages of her riveting 4-star romantic fiction drama, “Passions In Paris: Revelations of a Lost Diary.' The luscious 5-star romantic fiction drama 'Willow's Walk' is her 9th title.
Rusty has always loved the Arts in their many unique forms, and this is demonstrated in the two Interior Decorating and Design diplomas she holds, as well as many years spent on the south-western Ontario stage performing with her family’s country music band, The Midnight Ramblers, and the country- rock – blues band, MIRAGE respectively, as an accomplished vocalist, bassist, and rhythm guitarist.
Ms. Blackwood now resides in the cultural city of St. Catharines, Ontario, and when not at her keyboard, enjoys art, music, nature, gardening, and spending quality time with family, friends, and her loyal cat, Tipper.

Willow's Walk by Rusty Blackwood is the life journey of Willow Lane Sutherland-Crosby. Born near Smith Falls in the Upper Ottawa Valley, on a dairy farm that belongs to her grandfather, she grows up in a closely knit family and is particularly close to her grandfather and father. Upon reaching adolescence, the rebellious Willow falls in love and three years later, at the age of eighteen, she marries Bernard Whidbey. The young couple settles at the Sutherland farm, produces a son, but the strain of marriage soon rears its ugly head. Divorced at the age of nineteen, Willow’s relationship with her mother becomes strained and, four years later, she meets Jonas Crosby. Falling in love again, Willow follows her heart, but will she find happiness and contentment this time?

A contemporary romance novel, Willow’s Walk by Rusty Blackwood is a story that is so familiar, making it easy to relate to. There is something, however, that makes Willow Sutherland-Crosby stand out from the rest and that is her capacity to make a decision and stand up for it, and her determination to make the best out of her life. Rusty Blackwood’s creative writing style is simple and smooth and this makes the book such an enjoyable read. Her characters are well rounded and believable, and she always finds a redeeming value in each of them, the villains included, and this makes all of them quite human. And as we follow Willow walking the path of life that she chooses for herself, we are reminded of our own journey too as we, like her, seek love and happiness in our lives. I highly recommend this book!

Willow's Walk by Rusty Blackwood is a fictional story about one woman’s life and her journey. The story starts with Willow Lane Sutherland-Crosby, a fifty-something woman who is a grandmother, contemplating divorce from her husband. Willow’s Walk then takes us back to the beginning where it all started and the book then follows an almost autobiographical style, although fictional. Willow is the second of two children, born and raised on a dairy farm in the Upper Ottawa valley. She grows up as a farm girl, doing chores around the farm until, at the age of fifteen, she meets the young, handsome Bernie Whidbey. After a whirlwind courtship and wedding, things start falling apart pretty quickly, and now with a son, Willow ends up meeting Jonas Crosby. Willow’s life and the events leading up to her current life state form the gist of this novel.

Willow's Walk by Rusty Blackwood is a contemporary novel with elements of romance, intrigue, love, adventure, family, and more. Willow herself has been presented as a human being that anyone can empathize with: that is, with strengths, weaknesses, and flaws just like anyone else. What makes the book stand out though is the way her story is presented and the engaging writing style that evokes images of a rural farming community and Ottawa perfectly. The writing style is lyrical and genuine and the story flows along seamlessly. Overall, I went into reading this book not really knowing what to expect, but I thoroughly enjoyed reading about the life story of a person presented in such a wonderful manner.

I have read Willow’s Walk, and what a great book to read. I could hardly put the book down – it was that good. It keeps you thinking about will happen next, and how would she handle everything that is thrown at her. This is a classic book, and I would rate it 5 stars.

I just finished Willow’s Walk, following Willow’s foot steps through her life…that takes one on a journey through her mind as well as her life. You listen to her thoughts…you ghost her through her early childhood and early desires and strict upbringing. You see what dreams she wanted for her life when she was young and what direction it really takes her as she grows older, the loves she had and her despair…moving you to her present state of affairs in her adult life, filled with what I think is a spell-binding group of events which roller coaster you as if you were her eyes and ears, and if it hasn’t taken you far enough in one direction…it takes you further with every line….you feel her stress, her helplessness, always with the question in your mind how could she endure any more? She is coastered to different situations…that keep you hanging on every word searching for relief. Beautiful book, wonderful read.. If you get the chance take some time and walk through Willows life with her and enjoy this intriguing story. 5 stars

I am lucky enough to know some very talented artists. I had brought Willow’s Walk to the cottage on my last visit, having a week to read it, thinking, I would only read bits and pieces here and there between walks, cooking, cleaning, eating and enjoying the cottage.

I finished the book in 3 days!

I found Willow’s Walk very engrossing and hard to put down

Brutally honest and very realistic. I was touched by the bittersweet conclusion that sometimes purpose and happiness are only found through great tragedy
