"Winter Nova" takes the reader on an adventure as the Luminaires and warriors of Greydale rush to find lost crystals to save their city from the Imperial Army. It took a while for me to get into the story because so many concepts and characters are introduced quickly, but the author does a decent job moving the plot along. Gavin the master sage, Myla his guardian, Stefen Glanville chancellor of Greydale, Evan a warrior, and Arwyn Poole are just a few of the many characters introduced to the reader in the first few chapters. Once I sorted them out it became easier to relate to them and their quest.

A battle between light and dark, good and evil, this story delivers action and adventure with fun twists for the reader. Although I found some of the dialogue stiff and awkward, especially between Arwyn and her father, overall it was a fun read. I especially appreciated the development of Stefen's character across the storyline, incorporating both positive and negative aspects as he struggles with the darkness himself. In fact, the author provides many of the characters with multifaceted personalities which adds to the story's appeal. It is always fun to discover new voices in the fantasy genre and I was pleasantly surprised with "Winter Nova". This story is creative and fresh with a positive message. If you are looking for something new and different, give this book a try! Favorite Quote: "Without fail, understanding comes in the final season, as everything happens for a special reason."
