Wolf Company is a work of fiction in the epic fantasy, action, and adventure genres. It is best suited to mature adult readers owing to the presence of violent scenes and strong language throughout. Penned by author Dan Weber, we find ourselves in the epic fantasy world of Ethrynn, where Elves, Dwarves, and humans form the Unified Coalition of Races to battle the powerful Druids, who are accused of destroying cities and abducting citizens. Kadis Blackburn, an Elvish platoon sergeant in Wolf Company, leads his unit against the Druids. When an ambush disrupts communication with the rest of his forces, Kadis must decide whether to advance into enemy territory or retreat. As they delve deeper, they uncover shocking truths about the real source of the devastation. With relentless enemies and an unfolding mystery, the fate of Ethrynn hinges on revealing the true enemy.
Author Dan Weber has crafted an exhilarating and action-paced read, blending all the atmospheric grandeur of epic fantasy with the intense, gritty realism of military strategy. The diverse cast of characters that bring this action and intrigue to life was richly developed with a keen sense of how their attitudes are shaped by their surroundings and the challenges they face, making me feel deeply invested in their journey as each one is put to the test. The intricate plot twists are well-paced to keep readers on edge with some very early surprises that develop into more profound layers of complexity, challenging my initial perceptions and highlighting the themes of mistrust and deception all the more. The vivid descriptions of battles and treacherous landscapes immersed me in the world of Ethrynn with cinematic detail and visceral sensations, evoking a sense of awe and urgency every time danger looms. Overall, Wolf Company was a compelling and thought-provoking read that left a lasting impact and I can’t wait to see more from this talented fantasy author.
