Author Dan Weber has crafted an exhilarating and action-paced read, blending all the atmospheric grandeur of epic fantasy with the intense, gritty realism of military strategy. The diverse cast of characters that bring this action and intrigue to life was richly developed with a keen sense of how their attitudes are shaped by their surroundings and the challenges they face, making me feel deeply invested in their journey as each one is put to the test. The intricate plot twists are well-paced to keep readers on edge with some very early surprises that develop into more profound layers of complexity, challenging my initial perceptions and highlighting the themes of mistrust and deception all the more. The vivid descriptions of battles and treacherous landscapes immersed me in the world of Ethrynn with cinematic detail and visceral sensations, evoking a sense of awe and urgency every time danger looms. Overall, Wolf Company was a compelling and thought-provoking read that left a lasting impact and I can’t wait to see more from this talented fantasy author.

In Dan Weber's Wolf Company, Ethrynn is an ethereal place filled with mystery, magic, humans, dwarves, elves, and other supernatural beings. They all share a powerful enemy--the druids. The druids are magic-infused beings obsessed with waging war. Rumor has it that the druids are responsible for the destruction of countless villages. The Iron Army collective, which is an assemblage of various Company soldiers, sets out to end the druids' reign of terror. Kadis Blackburn is the platoon sergeant responsible for Wolf Company’s 3rd platoon. He is well-known for his boldness and unwavering resolve. As the soldiers position themselves outside a druid village, awaiting the signal to advance, an unanticipated attack occurs. They are engulfed in the chaos around them. A captured druid mage reveals some shocking news. The druids are not their enemies. They only want peace. Ethrynn is actually waging war against an unknown and formidable force. But is this the truth? If so, how will Kadis and his men respond to this new, unknown threat? Will they discover the real enemy before it's too late?

Dan Weber aptly weaves a fascinating web of alliances, betrayals, and unplanned alliances that will keep readers eager to see how the story ends. The world-building is pristine, drawing us into a world dominated by deadly secrets, power, and magic. Weber’s attention to detail is exceptional. He depicts vivid landscapes and intricate agendas that add excitement to the story. What sets Wolf Company apart is the captivating cast of characters. I loved reading about the different Company and soldier collaborations throughout the novel. Kadis' and Slate's growth as main characters is sublime. They both navigate the uncharted waters of the fae world with true courage. Their steadfast determination to fight for justice is both relatable and inspiring. The last stand-off is a tour de force, filled with surprising twists and turns that will have readers catching their breaths. If you crave a book that will ferry you to an enchanting magical realm, filled with memorable characters and adventure, look no further than Wolf Company.

In Wolf Company by Dan Weber, the Elf Kadis Blackburn had fought in the first war between the Unified Coalition of Races against the Orcs and is now a Platoon Sergeant in Wolf Company. What is known to Wolf Company is that the Druids, a reclusive people wielding raw magic, have been destroying villages and killing inhabitants indiscriminately. Three platoons from Wolf Company were sent in separate directions to stealthily approach Karrholm, a Druid village housing an important Druidic building. The operation is fatal to at least one complete platoon and almost decimates the remaining soldiers. Kadis is met by a Druid elder who explains that the Druids were not behind the attacks and that once the Druid elders, like him, who have lived almost a thousand years, are dead, the whole world is in danger. Kadis does not know what to believe, but when one of his men, a magic wielder, betrays them, he and the remnants of his platoon set out back to the Iron Army in search of answers. As Kadis and the remnant of his platoon head back, they struggle with their friend's recent betrayal and the notion that what they were told about the war was not true.

Wolf Company is an epic sword and sorcery fantasy. Dan Weber has written an edge-of-your-seat, fast-paced, and action-packed tale. The characters are well-rounded and developed and have a full range of emotions and motivations. The plot is carried forward by characters that show authentic reactions to their circumstances and leave the reader with a residue of their feelings. The action is vivid and brutal, with lots of blood and strong language. It is evident through the action that there are always two sides in a war and that the foot soldiers have to fight and die for what they trust is the truth told by their leaders. This is a well-written first installment of the story of Wolf Company.

Wolf Company by Dan Weber is a gripping fantasy that keeps readers turning page after page, eager to know everyone's fate and see how it all unfolds. As I devoured the pages, I rooted for Kadis and his diverse platoon. Yet, when more blood was spilled, unprecedented magic wielded, and secrets uncovered, I thought this story couldn't get darker and more intriguing, and I couldn't read it fast enough to see how it would turn out. This complex, thought-provoking, and suspenseful novel delves into themes of greed and power. I recommend it to anyone interested in immersing themselves in a world of war where magic and military strategy collide, and intense battle scenes stand out especially.
