Woman of Flames by Kim Stokely is a well written historical fiction which will enthrall readers with its imagery, passion, and story line. Deborah is a gifted child and from childhood she has this task of convincing people around her that she is special and it is God's will that she is the spiritual leader of Israel. She grows in stature and power and the only person who stands in her way is the General of the Canaanite army, Sisera. He succeeds in capturing Deborah and finds himself drawn to her beauty and power. Will Deborah be able to resist the temptation and be able to save her country and set her people free?

The compelling theme that revolves around a biblical character is not boring; instead it will draw readers with its bold depiction of the triumphs and terrors in the ancient world. The characters are well defined and their relationships with each other are also portrayed strongly and with a lot of clarity. The story will excite readers on many levels. The battle stories, life in Israel in those days, the everyday life, their food habits and culture, and the relevant characters are fascinating and keep readers glued to the book until the end.

The imagery is wonderful. The author has masterfully written the physical battles and the emotional battles inside Deborah and woven them together, making it more dramatic metaphorically. Readers who like historical characters, The Old Testament stories, and Biblical women will love this book. This compelling historical fiction will keep you riveted with its powerful story line, wonderful imagery, and rich passion.

Being a girl, Deborah received a lot of grief over her ability to talk to God. But even in the midst of people’s doubts, she still believed that God will use her to free her people from the hands of the Canaanites. When Sisera was a child, he was unwilling to fight with the Israelites. That is, until his father was killed in battle; he then swore that he will fight them with all his might. Many years later, he became the General of all the Canaanites armies. Deborah was captured by the enemy led by Sisera, but she was able to escape with the help of her God. After this encounter with Deborah, Sisera became obsessed with her and he won’t stop until he claims her and eliminates all the Israelites. How will Deborah free her people in Woman of Flames by Kim Stokely.

Woman of Flames is based on Deborah from the book of Judges. Although some of the novel was based on the author’s imagination, I think it was still pretty accurate and I loved reading it. It was a page turner. One after another, Deborah was faced with a lot of trials but her faith never faltered. She truly is an inspiring woman. The narrative of the story flowed smoothly and the dialogues were engaging. What I liked most about this book was waiting so see how God would free the people from their enemies through Deborah. Kim Stokely didn't disappoint because I think the most well written scene of the book was the battle at the end. This book is a very good rendition of the story of Deborah.

Women of Flames by Kim Stokely tells the tale about a woman named Deborah. She is blessed by the hand of God as she begins to see visions sent by her Lord. Later she hears his voice and becomes his ever-loving servant. She is known as 'The Prophet' of the Lord. She knows she has a purpose and as the novel unfolds it is to become a mother for all of Israel. She will be the one to lead her people to victory. God will smite the enemies of her people when the time is right, but he will not do this until all of his people unite as one, praying unto him for forgiveness. As a woman blessed by God to become a prophet, this in itself makes history in a male-dominated era. At first people mock and turn their backs, but the love and courage that Deborah shows make them believe once again in the Lord. A powerful yet moving story of hope, courage, and above all the solid belief in the Hebrew God.

Woman of Flames by Kim Stokely has captured my heart and filed me with peace. It was written in such a way that the reader can sympathize with the plight of Deborah and the suffering of her people at the hands of the Canaanites. Each character is unique and flawlessly developed, enabling a rich understanding of what the author is trying to portray. It is a long novel separated into three parts, but each section is just as wonderful as the other - I could not put this down. Although I am not Jewish or Hebrew, I am a Christian and I am warmed by this fantastic novel which filled my soul with much peace. I was lost in the story, eager to learn more, and I was not disappointed. I recommend this book to all and I am sure that it will fill your heart with peace and inspire you as it has me.
