The world created by H. L. Watson in "World of Ryyan: Birth of the Half Elves (Elven Age Saga)" is one filled with magic, enchanted forests, humans, elves, violence and prejudice. In "World of Ryyah" we meet Donovan who lives in a fishing village. Donovan’s village was sadistically attacked by barbarian Vikings. His mother was sold as a slave and his father was murdered while he and his friends were taken captive. The captives were rescued by Alayna and the elf leader. The elves debated whether to kill the human boys but Alayna refused to allow them to be harmed. Humans and elves were taught to mistrust, fear and even detest each other. However, Alayna saw something special in the eyes of the human boys, and took them under her care and tutelage where they learned elven ways about how to be warriors. The boys are taught the elven ways and grow very loyal to the he elves. So begins the chronicle of the Half Elves.

"World of Ryyah" is a young adult fantasy book. This book begins with a vicious blood attack; however, Alayna shows compassion and grace. Watson takes readers on a magical journey deep into a magical place that can only exist in one’s imagination. There is a deep message in this book: we should learn to embrace our differences and ingrained prejudices. It is time to learn acceptance and loyalty. This good versus evil tale is a fantastic read. The plot is heartwarming, adventurous and exciting. The characters have great depth and their own unique personalities. There is a twist to this story that I never saw coming. This is the first book in a new series; I look forward to reading the second installment.
