Your Tomorrow Was Today by Oyindamola Dosunmu is an emotionally charged novel that navigates the intersections of grief, womanhood, and personal reinvention in contemporary Nigeria. We're with Karen, who is estranged from her family and fiercely independent. She's suddenly forced to confront her past when her mother dies, and the funeral brings her back to her sister Omo, who is struggling with her pain and illness. With an unplanned pregnancy also adding new pressure to her life, Karen finds unexpected solace in a local women’s support group, where shared stories help her see her own through a new lens. As she processes layers of trauma, love, and identity, Karen begins a quiet but profound transformation that asks her to reconcile where she came from with the woman she’s becoming.

Author Oyindamola Dosunmu has a knack for character and emotion. This story is penned with fantastic clarity and cultural richness. I felt fully immersed in Karen’s world from the start, fascinated by its textures, tensions, and its quiet moments of beauty. I loved how the author refused to simplify Karen’s experience: she’s flawed, resilient, grieving, and learning, all at once, and that's realistic and enjoyable. The way Lagos is brought to life pulses beneath every scene, grounding the personal story in a vibrant, complex social landscape. There’s a poetry to Dosunmu’s prose that never feels forced, either, and it flows in such a readable way that it lifts you up and transports you. The support group scenes in particular hit me hard as they reminded me how powerful shared vulnerability can be. Overall, Your Tomorrow Was Today is a beautifully crafted novel about healing, choice, and the strength it takes to write your own future, and it's a must-read for lovers of literary fiction with heart and cultural depth.
