Yukon Audit by Ken Baird is a thriller beyond all thrillers. The Yukon is a mystical place. It is the land of the midnight sun. It is the home of the Klondike gold rush. And it is a place to launder money with a gold mine. Brody lives in a tiny cabin on the Yukon River. He’s happy with his life, flying an old plane and running a repair shop, living alone with his dogs. He doesn’t like phones or the police and is happy to live the quiet life. Until he repairs a car for a beautiful woman who hires him to fly her over a gold mine. Seeing nothing sinister in her request, they go off and, on their journey, they spot a missing plane. Landing, they investigate and find it contains two dead men – Brody knows the pilot and the woman knows the passenger. All of a sudden, Brody’s quiet life is turned upside down as he comes to the attention of the FBI and the Mounties, not to mention a couple of underworld gangs. Having to deal with romance, a kidnapping, a beating and a hijacking, Brody is determined to get to the bottom of this.

Yukon Audit by Ken Baird is a brilliant novel, packed full of action and color. It is one of those page-turners that are impossible to put down and, indeed, I didn’t. For starters, it is full of wonderful descriptions about the Yukon, descriptions that really make me want to go there. Second, the plot is amazingly well developed, with plenty of action and lots of twists and turns that keep a reader on their toes and firmly entrenched in the novel. The characters were full of life and well matched to the story. Ken Baird clearly knows a great deal about the Yukon and it shows in the plot, which is intricate and tightly woven. If you love thrillers, mysteries and adventures, with a bit of romance thrown in for good measure, you will love this book. An absolutely riveting story that you will not want to let go of.

Talented writer! This book takes you on a realistic journey through the Yukon. Extremely accurate portrayal of people and places as I have spent a great deal of time in that area. Don't miss this one!

This is a review of the book: "Yukon Audit", by Ken Baird, a first time novelist. The book has been self published:

This author is a true artist and a credit to the craft of writing. It is completely flabbergasting that this is a first novel. From the caliber of writing, the respect of written English, character development, plot continuity, descriptions, depth and feeling--this author has it nailed. The book is a suspense mystery romance novel. Each of these elements is appropriately balanced and plays out in a very realistic manner given the unfolding circumstance. The protagonists are very believable characters that behave and react in ways that one would expect regular people to react. As the title indicates the setting is in the Yukon. One can feel and sense the essence of the Yukon through this prose--to the point where one feels they have experienced the Yukon vicariously. The author clearly has done a lot of research and/or has a very broad base of experience himself. The novel ends with a potential segue to a follow on adventure. We can only wait and hope. This book will appeal to a broad base of readers--form those who grew up with Jack London, or generally romanticize about the North, to history buffs, crime novel enthusiasts, romance lovers--it has it all.

This author has the potential to become a main stream, sought after author perhaps in the company of John Grisham or David Baldacci.

This book is begging for a movie to be made of it. The spectacle of the Yukon leaps out vividly in words--one wonders what a clever cinematographer could do on the big screen.

I haven't finished the book yet, but, I already know I'll want to dive into another one of Brody's adventures.
I have lived in the Yukon for many years and the detail, descriptions and intrigue of the Territory is beautifully captured in Mr. Bairds' writings. A great blend of wilderness, crime, romance and a lust for gold.....
A MUST READ!!!!!!!!
