Myunique C. Green brings us thought-provoking dystopian fiction in Zombies Anonymous. It’s been six years since the outbreak and things are looking okay. The formerly dead are on Neu-Restore, which helps them suppress their predatory urges. They have jobs and homes. Nellie Carter, a journalist, is swimming in debt. When Nellie’s editor gives her a new and urgent assignment, she expects it to be another human interest story. What she doesn’t anticipate, however, is the explosion of Javier Mendez into her life. Javier is the perfect example of a successfully reintegrated undead. But when one of the reanimated relapses into its primal state, the true plan of the government is exposed. These zombies were never supposed to stick around forever.
Author Myunique C. Green has created a world filled with incredible passion. Sensory stimulation is abundant with vivid descriptions of smells, sights, and sounds. The pace is steady, pulling you along easily and keeping you curious. The plot is rich with intrigue. Action-filled chase scenes will keep you on the edge of your seat, rooting for the main characters. Written in the first-person narrative from the perspective of a strong female makes you privy to her thoughts and feelings. Characters are full of personality and I found myself laughing at the dialogue more than a few times. Zombies Anonymous is not for sensitive readers who don’t enjoy the zombie genre and the possibilities that go with the reanimated undead concept. The author’s writing style is fun and definitely enhances the feel of an action-packed novel.
