Larry Theriault III's 14 Steps Away is a fun children's book. It follows a young boy named Max, who has trouble falling asleep without his mom and dad with him. This started when he was a baby, and has continued. He keeps asking why his parents can't sleep in his room with him. His mother explains that she is only 14 steps away, but Max doesn't understand what she means. How will she explain it to him?

I really enjoyed reading 14 Steps Away by Larry Theriault III. The book is very relatable and realistic, because many children have trouble falling asleep and wish that their parents were in the room with them. The characters are all very likeable, especially the mother who is very kind to Max. The book is also very realistic and well written because Max faces problems many children experience. The illustrations by Julia Kokernak are very true to life. The book shows children that it's okay to fall asleep without their parents in the room. It is the perfect bedtime story, as the main character falls asleep in the end, showing children that their parents are never far away, even if they're not in the room. The story is descriptive and heartwarming, with the mom teaching the boy a valuable lesson about falling asleep. I would recommend 14 Steps Away by Larry Theriault III to all young readers, especially those who have trouble falling asleep.
