Inspired by the fortuitous coincidence of the traditions of Christianity and Islam in April 2025, Glenville Ashby penned this enthralling poetry collection. His 40 Days of Fasting: 40 Inspired Recitations takes readers on a spiritual odyssey unlike any other. "Damned" is an illuminating poem that illustrates who humans are drawn toward in times of need compared with times of abundance. "Forgiveness" speaks about Judgment Day, when everyone will be judged according to their sins unless they learn to repent. "Fire" shows how the obsessive pursuit of everything might doom human civilization. "The Resurrection" explores birth, rebirth, and the chance to redeem oneself. All good things come to those who wait, beautifully encapsulated in the poem "Patience." The narrator refuses to be swayed from the path of his Lord by schemes and temptation in "The Faustian Deal."
Author Glenville Ashby presents a mesmerizing collection of poems, taking readers on a journey of spiritual awakening and reconciliation. His 40 Days of Fasting: 40 Inspired Recitations is divided into four parts. These include forgiveness, service, humility, and enlightenment. Each part features poems that touch upon different topics, yet they are also interlinked with each other through the common narrative theme. Ashby's poetry is emotionally and spiritually impactful as the author interprets the wisdom and knowledge of the Abrahamic faiths and expresses them through absorbing verses that strike a chord in your soul. This book is as much a spiritual guide as it is a poetry collection. After finishing the poems, you might want to revisit them from time to time. All in all, it's an enlightening and inspirational collection that I highly recommend.
