Spiral by Randy Dean Noble is an action-packed, gory horror story about a man’s quest to save humanity from depraved game masters intent on murdering the innocent to further their warped worldviews. When he first wakes up in a strange car with a deformed creature chasing him, Green is terrified; this is the stuff of nightmares. But how did he get here? With no idea who he is, everything seems ten times more terrifying. Eventually, he discovers that he’s a participant in a popular game show where losing means certain death. With nothing but their assigned cars to take them from one leg to the next, suspicion and desperation run high. The challenges include endless riddles, constant threats of drowning in rotten blood, navigating pyramids made of dead bodies, and sabotaging other players. Knowing nothing about who they are, they go by the color of their assigned cars. Suspicious of the other players, Green decides to form a pact with Blue, Beige, and White. But in this game, rules don’t apply, and neither does truth, as the players are about to discover. Welcome to Inferno…
Suspenseful and chilling, Spiral is a fast-paced action novel with a well-thought-out plot and well-defined characters. It was intriguing and highly entertaining; I was greatly invested in the storyline and the characters’ motives. I enjoyed the concept of the colors; it was clever and original, and it was like the colors were designed to fit each character’s personality. I felt an instant connection with the main character, Green; he displayed great leadership qualities and worked well with the others, especially Blue, whose bravery and skills blew my mind. She was bold without being loud, and I loved that about her. Randy Dean Noble knows how to keep his readers in a tight grip of suspense and shock; I was hooked. The suspicions regarding who could be a saboteur built up the suspense, which was intoxicating. Bloody twists and trauma-inducing riddles with a timer and a jester taunting you—what’s not to love? Spiral is a hell of a ride and perfect for fans of the strange and twisted.
