Truth and The Hallow by W. L. Brooks is a fantasy which centers on Ven Lee, a girl who chooses to go back to her hometown, Ingrid Hallow, a mystical town governed by magic laws and full of mythical creatures. Ven felt like an outcast in Ingrid Hollow, as she was raised an orphan with unknown origins. When the town’s magic allowed her to leave, she thought returning might be impossible, but years later, she is back with her loyal friend Bert, an elderly gentleman with hidden skills and a dark past. Ven joins forces with her mate Dylan, with whom she had kept in touch, and Ursula, the keeper of the guard, to save Augie, her best friend, whom everyone presumed dead. Her mission turns dire as manipulative individuals try to turn the tables and accuse Ven of being the villain, but it also unravels hidden secrets about her true identity.
Truth and The Hallow is a fast-paced story all about self-discovery, standing up for yourself, and real friendship. Ingrid Hallow, the magical town at the heart of it, is such a cool idea. It has its own personality, almost like it’s alive, and hands out gifts and guidance to the people who need it most. W. L. Brooks keeps things lively with suspense and a great sense of humor. Bert steals the show half the time. His quick wit and bold attitude make him stand out. There's a steamy scene in the mix—one that'll probably have you blushing—and the way the story wraps up feels just right, tying up every last mystery. At its heart, this book is all about real friendship, loyalty, fate, and standing up to people in power who are just plain wrong. You’ll also find a strong theme of redemption, especially as Bert finds his way forward. It’s a fun, feel-good read that leaves you wanting more. I enjoyed every minute with this book—perfect for anyone who loves magical stories about friendship, fate, and finding your way back to confidence.
