Michael Verrett's 9 Things You Should Never Do When You're Sick is a very cute and creative story. Bailey is a sick little girl with a fever and she has been ordered to stay in bed by her parents. Naturally Bailey has other plans and decides to sneak out of bed and go for a walk. The walk leads her to an adventure on a sea monster-shaped air mattress. On her adventure she meets lots of interesting characters.

I have read a few books by Verrett and this is my favorite story of his by far. The events that occur in 9 Things You Should Never Do When You're Sick were things that only a person with an incredible imagination could have dreamed up. One of those things you should never do when sick is grab a pirate by the moustache. I read this story with my 4-year-old daughter and she was laughing her head off at everything that happened to Bailey. Her favorite thing was when Bailey tickled the moon. This alone makes it a great book to read at bedtime.

The illustrations in the book were also done by Verrett and are very colorful. The picture of the pink and purple castle was another one of the things my daughter really liked about this book. Overall, my child and I really enjoyed this book. She has already asked me to read it again for bedtime. I look forward to reading more of Verrett’s work and seeing what other unique things he dreams up.

Jessyca thank you so much for your review and especially the opinion of your daughter. In May of 2015 I met 4 year old Bailey, my great niece, for the first time. For the few days we were togther she treated me like a set of monkey bars - climbing all over me and engaging me as only a precoscious 4-year old can. It was then I decided to create a book that captured her mischevious charm. Your daughter's response assures me that I hit the ball the squarely with both art and story and so thank her from the bottom of my heart for her participation. I am pushing to get my next book through editing by the end of next week. with a completion date around the first of the year. I work on several children's books at a time and so there are others waiting patiently for me to complete the illustrations.
