Author Biography

Born in Stockholm in the late 80's, this is also where I call home.

Besides reading; I have a healthy fascination for Japanese authors, I like to watch movies and listen to music, however generic that sounds...and whenever the weights are willing, I try my best to lift them.

Since I have to clean my cluttered brain on a regular basis, between more voluminous works I publish whatever happens to emerge; poetry, flash fiction or short stories. As a byproduct of this, I've also found I thoroughly enjoy making the covers...

A collection of 33 original short stories and 22 poems, David Podlipny’s A Basement: A Collection of Short Stories and Poems (Alphabet) is enjoyable yet partly a conundrum to me. The short stories are presented at the start of this collection, and I had to reread several of them a couple of times. It is not because I don’t understand them at all, but rather I am trying to comprehend the gist of the narratives further as the stories are adroitly multi-layered. That being said, some stories and poems were too vague for me. They do not have a clear theme that I could pick up on. However, I would not necessarily consider this vagueness as a weakness – it all boils down to personal preference. As a matter of fact, readers could consider this as something new and different.

The story Go and the poem Ode To A Mood are my favorites as I could relate to these on a personal level, and nostalgically they bring up some fond memories. David Podlipny’s writing is a potent mix of eccentricity, dark tones as well as containing warmth and verve – reminding us about the complexity of life and human minds that we sometimes take for granted. The emotions that the well-written characters show have substantial depth and will resonate with any reader. A Basement: A Collection of Short Stories and Poems (Alphabet) is a fine and enlightening anthology for idealistic minds and is one to be lauded. This collection can easily be read in one or two sittings, but its expressive effects will likely stay with you for quite some time.
