A Broken Clock Never Boils by C.J. Weiss is a psychological thriller that will have you sitting on the edge of your seat. Claire Rossi became obsessed with curing schizophrenic patients after her mother was misdiagnosed and later died because of that. Becoming a psychiatrist was the easiest decision she ever made and she took a lot of pride in her work. However, when Claire started to hear and see a man, she was scared out of her mind. With every encounter, the man and his voice became more violent. Claire wanted to believe the voice belonged to something supernatural, but that could also be her wishful thinking. What was happening to her? Was there something haunting her or was she schizophrenic just like her mother?
I loved A Broken Clock Never Boils. The suspense was almost an additional character in the story and had me guessing until the end. Claire was such a strong character; she understood her symptoms, understood what was happening around her and what she needed to do. I loved her responses and intelligent dialogues. C. J. Weiss crafted a masterful world where Claire was the center of attention and her “ailment” was almost enough to drag her away from life. The narrative style was perfectly fluid, and engaging and had me hooked from the first chapter. I picked up this novel because of the cover and read it till the end because of how well it was written. It was dark and thrilling and had a strong protagonist that I rooted for from the very beginning. I highly recommend it!
