A Cunning Heist (Sloane Harper Book 2) by Astrid Arditi is an engaging and fast-paced sleuth mystery novel with an awkward, but tenacious heroine. Sloane Harper may be clumsy, but she is not a wilting lily. With an ex-husband who left her for a classy, beautiful woman, a boyfriend that leaves the country and never calls again, an indomitable WASP mother, and a not so helpful maid, Sloane feels washed out and uncertain. With everything that has occurred, Sloane wants to validate to herself that she is a strong, independent woman. So when an opportunity is presented that will allow her to exercise her dubious sleuthing skills, Sloane jumps at it. Despite the fact that she has been warned to stay away from the situation, Sloane forges ahead anyway. When a murder is committed, and Sloane is the last person to speak to the victim, the reality of the danger she is in hits her. Will Sloane be the next victim or will she be able to outsmart her adversaries?
Suspense and humor are abundant in the brilliant sleuth mystery, A Cunning Heist, by Astrid Arditi. With a fascinating plot and winning characters, I couldn't put the book down. It has everything a mystery fan could want; abduction, murder, suspense with an added side of comedy. The protagonist, Sloane, is an unconventional sleuth with a stubborn streak. Despite her frequent tendency to fall off her feet and land on her bum, she is clever and courageous. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this marvelously entertaining and intriguing novel, and recommend it to those who love amateur sleuth mysteries with a comedic touch.
