Author Biography

JoAnn Hornak is a lover of words and former lawyer. Having spent most of her life in humid or freezing Wisconsin, she loves her current home in the beautiful Napa Valley, where she lives with her husband and their two very lucky dogs who get to romp through gorgeous vineyards—although they don’t seem to care about the view.

JoAnn enjoys writing novels, especially romantic comedy, women's fiction and suspense. She is currently working on a memoir about taking the Wine Immersion Course at the Culinary Institute in Napa Valley and meeting her husband. She has had essays published in Newsweek magazine, the Washington Post, and the anthology, Sand in My Bra and Other Misadventures: Funny Women Write from the Road.

JoAnn has tried stand-up comedy, but discovered she is funnier on the page than on the stage. She dreams of having a syndicated humor column, but until someone is willing to pay her (handsomely) for that privilege, she writes funny essays and stories from her travels on her blog at: http://joannhornak.blogspot.com/. A Delicate Bond begins with a severed bond as Lisa sends a vague e-mail telling Natalie she won’t be attending her wedding as maid of honor. Much to Natalie’s consternation, she is unable, for quite some time, to get an actual explanation from her supposed best friend. The actual explanation makes it near impossible to have any sympathy for Lisa or to find her anything less than objectionable. The fact that JoAnn Hornak was able to make the reader see some humanity in Lisa’s character is a testament to her skills as a storyteller. As we follow Lisa and Natalie through their separate journeys, we learn a lot about them as women and their friendship.

JoAnn Hornak does a great job of illustrating the incredibly strong bond found in female friendships. It is as strong as it is delicate and, through flashbacks, we get an objective glimpse into Natalie and Lisa’s friendship which indeed was a delicate bond. A Delicate Bond forces Natalie to answer the question “is it better to be right or happy” which she has trouble answering. The emotions evoked in this story are palpable as Natalie and Lisa endure big ups and downs without the other to lean on. The self-discovery each woman embarks upon will make them stronger as individuals but will it have the same impact on their now-distant friendship? The special bond that is female friendship is as fragile as it is strong, which makes A Delicate Bond more than just a story, but rather a journey of self-exploration and maturity in relationships.

When I started this book, "A Delicate Bond", I could not put it down!
It grabbed me from the first page. An easy flowing read that any
woman of really many ages could relate too, as I'm sure we all have had at least one special friend in life. I loved the authors discriptive ways of writing, as it makes you relate to the many daily feelings. If you are looking for a realistic story, this is the book for you...Enjoy.
