A Life Without Living by S.C. Alban is a breathtaking story of a love that defies time, a love tested by unusual circumstances. Kate’s life could have been peaceful and serene when she was married to Alessandro, four hundred years ago, but she meets and falls for Gio with whom she develops a powerful bond. Alessandro finds out and that is the tragic part. Alessandro belongs to a powerful magical clan and, betrayed, he takes his revenge using his supernatural gifts. He curses Kate to be killed in every reincarnation and always whenever she is on the point of reuniting with her lover. Gio will live forever, pining for the love of his life, unable to save her. In this intriguing story, Gio spends his life looking for his love, Kate, and every time he finds her, she gets killed because Alessandro is always a step ahead of him, a powerful game maker. But this time Gio is determined to outwit him and he can only do so by using a power that can stand up against Alessandro’s magical skills. Will he be able, with the help of his friends, Willem and Claire, to save his lover before Alessandro gets to her?

S.C. Alban’s A Life Without Living is the only book that has had the effect I experienced when reading Before I Go to Sleep by S.J. Watson. Alban creates the kind of suspense that will make you turn the pages nonstop and, when you think you are done with the story, you’ll find your nerves rattled for many an hour after you turn the last page. It takes great skill to write a story fraught with impossible events and to make readers feel like it was part of everyday life. Alban seems to have just that skill. I loved the way the POV moves with the first person narrative, which makes the psychological conflict even more powerful and poignant. The writing is excellent, the plot is solid and fast-paced, and the characters are gorgeous, and wonderfully chiseled out with great originality. This is a well-conceived story with a unique and powerful theme, a page turner, and highly entertaining. You won’t put this one down!

A Life Without Living by S.C. Alban is a fast paced, supernatural roller coaster that starts out running and doesn't stop until the end - and even then, it leaves you hanging! Kate thought her life was perfect. She had an adoring husband, a great home, and a good job in the publishing industry. Her only problem is nightmares that have plagued her for her entire life. She tries to pass them off as nothing more than just dreams, but these visions of running away from a familiar but faceless man to someone she's never clearly seen or met continue to plague her. Then, one day, they cross the line into her waking life when she meets another man whom she's never met before, but is somehow extremely familiar to her - and she's inexplicably drawn to him, despite her perfect marriage and life.

A Life Without Living is a thrilling adventure that takes you into the mysterious world of magic that weaves a thread through the ages. S.C. Alban does a wonderful job of explaining Earth based religions to people (like me) who aren't familiar with them without talking down or going into too much irrelevant detail. In fact, I found it interesting and learned a good bit about them through this book, which was a great bonus along with the wonderful love story that transcends time and ages. The characters are well developed, and the story moves along at a perfect pace that keeps readers guessing. In fact, I was still guessing at the end, which I hope opens the door to a sequel. If you enjoy supernatural romances then I highly recommend this one. It's a great read - one I couldn't put down!

For as long as she could remember, Katie accepted her nightmares as just another facet of her life. She was running from something or someone. It was usually dark and the air was heavy with fear. But that was in her dreams. By day, Katie enjoyed a blissful life with Alex, the perfect man. Handsome, successful Alex would never let anything harm her. And when Alex was not by her side, Katie’s best friend David filled the void. And then there was Gio, the new guy in town. Katie had never felt safer or more loved than when in Gio’s presence. Who was he and why was she so drawn to him? Surrounded by nothing but positive light, Katie’s happy life becomes very complicated when Alex’s possessive nature becomes unbearable and Katie is forced to rethink life decisions. What or who was she running from?

A Life Without Living by S.C. Alban is not your average vampire story. In fact, there are no vampires in this story at all. But the characters are four hundred years old and stuck in ageless bodies. A beautiful blend of paranormal and fantasy, A Life Without Living is far superior to any work of its genre. Alban creates a believable world of colorful characters and realistic passion that motivates the reader to anxiously turn the pages in search of answers. Alban has found that new idea for which every author searches. This is series material at its finest. I loved, loved, loved this. It is such a fresh look at an old theme! Thank you, S.C. Alban, for bringing something new to the bookshelf.
