A Mountain Man’s Redemption by Christi Corbett is a heartwarming story about Philip Grant, a man on the run from his past, and from God. His escape leads him to the mountains, and to a life of solace as a fur trapper, but after eighteen years of isolation, one encounter is about to change all that. On his last trip before retiring, he comes across Hannah Dolt, a frightened young woman who’s on the run herself, practically barefoot and with a baby. Only her flight is from her abusive husband. Philip has many questions, but he’ll have to earn Hannah’s trust to find out the answers. When Hannah makes a request of Philip that would cause him to sacrifice all he’s worked so hard for, he thinks she has a lot of gall, but as Hannah’s story unwinds, and Philip thinks about the abuse Hannah and her baby had suffered at the hands of her drunkard husband, it brings back memories of his own haunted past, and ignites a special bond between the two. He realizes that fleeing his past hasn’t helped him forget it. And leaving God behind was his biggest mistake of all. Will this hardened mountain man find peace, and a place for God in his heart again?

I was riveted to A Mountain Man’s Redemption from beginning to end. Author Christi Corbett has a way of creating memorable characters you want to root for and scenery that feels as real as our own. Readers will be on the edge of their seats as Philip, Hannah, and her baby face harsh winter conditions, battered bodies, and near starvation while journeying through the Montana mountains. Even with the delicate subject matter of domestic abuse, this story shines with hope. Hannah trusts God through her ordeal, and Philip takes notice. I found the spirit of these characters refreshing. If you’re looking for a story filled with suspense, faith, and redemption, you’ve found it! After reading this dramatic tale, I look forward to enjoying more of Christi Corbett’s books.
