A Pink Zombie, with a Mist by Jada Ryker is a mystery horror story. Olivia West is a teacher and an anthropologist whose best friend disappeared. She and Emma went to a place called Heavens Bottom when they were younger and the experience left them with odd memories. Now, Olivia is about to go back. Following a shooting at the school where she works, she gets involved with Detective Steven Lewis, whose wife was murdered in Heavens Bottom. In return for helping him find her murderer, he will help her look for Emma. Together with an elderly next-door neighbor, a couple of high school students, and the wife of a professor at the school, they embark on a journey to find out the truth about Heavens Bottom – is there a religious cult there or are they zombies? Or is there a more sinister explanation for the strange goings-on in Heavens Bottom? Enlisting the help of Sheriff Noah McCracken, they set out to find the truth, but whether they believe it when they find it is another matter. Seeing is always believing ... or is it?

A Pink Zombie, with a Mist by Jada Ryker was a good read right from the start. I found it amusing in places and, overall, it was a very well-crafted story. The plot line moved naturally, with no false starts and no odd bits that didn’t fit. I’m not normally a lover of zombie stories but I did enjoy this one, perhaps because it was something a little bit different. It was action packed, the characters were well suited to the story, and there are one or two little twists in it that added a bit extra to the story. I also enjoyed the short story at the end of the book. Good start; I look forward to the next installment!
