A Sound From Above by Victor Grant is a lyrical collection of poetry that reconfirms the transcendent nature of poetry. As you read these poems about love and beauty, you realize how gifted and talented this poet is to have the ability to convey complex thoughts and emotions in such an artful way. If you like poetry that sweeps you into the moment with beautiful words, phrasing, and composition, you will love this collection. You will become so immersed in the language that you feel as though you're watching it as a film playing out in your mind. The descriptions delight the senses and the rhythms are hypnotic.
It is obvious that Grant loves to create poetry and images with words, like a painter with a brush creating scenes and moments that fill your senses. There is an ethereal quality to some of them, inspiring the imagination and emotions around romance, infatuation, and desire. I like how he repeats words and phrases, as if wanting to draw even more attention to certain details and feelings, or emphasizing a special point. The poems read like songs, slices of life, slices of emotion, of moments. It's as if these snapshots in time are frozen for us to return to again, to experience and admire as you would go to an art museum to revisit a favorite piece or watch a favorite classic film again. There is an inclusive feel, exploring many aspects of life and love, longing for the past, living in memories. One of my favorites from this volume is "Deafened Love". I love the musicality of it, the rhythm, the words, almost like the ebb and flow of a gentle tide. If you are looking for well-crafted poetry that is aesthetically pleasing, do not miss A Sound From Above by Victor Grant.
