A Tide of Treason by A. B. Daniels-Annachi is a thrilling dark fantasy that gives The Little Mermaid a fresh and adventurous twist. Prince Dorian feels trapped by royal expectations and longs for the freedom of the sea. Everything changes when he meets Zara, a fierce ocean-dweller who wants to stop humans from destroying her world. But then they encounter Veshak, a privateer with shady secrets and whose loyalties aren’t always clear. As their paths collide, the three must navigate dangerous waters, facing everything from political betrayals to magical forces that could reshape their worlds forever. This isn’t just a love story or a tale of rebellion—it’s a gripping, high-seas adventure packed with romance, intrigue, and the fight for something bigger than themselves.

Author A. B. Daniels-Annachi constructs a vibrant and immersive world where mythology and reality collide spectacularly. The story has plenty of eco-conscious themes mixed into its fast-paced plot and the action feels urgent without having to slow down for longwinded explanations. The characters are layered and complex with their own desires and fears which makes them compelling and easy to root for. The book goes back and forth between gorgeous ocean scenes and edge-of-your-seat action bits that play out like a movie in readers' heads. The fantasy elements were something I adored and leaned into the more I read, and I liked the way they challenged traditional fantasy ideas with new perspectives on the classics. Overall, I highly recommend A Tide of Treason to anyone who loves bold, imaginative fantasy with rich world-building and characters that stay with readers long after the final page.
