After being introduced to cocaine in the early 1980s, Rick Breitweiser had a successful run as a businessman with 16 years of abstinence until he reignited his cocaine addiction in the Dominican Republic. This lasted for seven years. Now a drug counselor, Rick draws on his life experiences to present this illuminating book on addiction that explores the challenges of unhealthy obsessions and dependencies and offers keen insights on how to navigate addictive behaviors. Addiction Logic delves into identifying the triggers that bring on compulsive behavior and the root causes that enable addiction and obsession. Behavioral, substance, and impulse addiction are the three types commonly seen in people. This book will help you find healthy ways to alleviate stress, develop coping mechanisms against addictive behaviors, and discover how prolonged substance abuse creates adverse mental and psychological effects.

Addiction Logic is one of the most comprehensive books on addiction that I've read. In this part memoir/part self-help guide, author Rick Breitweiser gives an unflinching account of his substance abuse issues, offering readers a look into how addictive and obsessive behavior can quickly change the course of one's personal and professional life. The author takes a deep dive into the different addictive substances and emphasizes how a well-rounded fitness and nutrition program can help build healthy habits to alleviate stress and anxiety. The book also explores behavioral addictions such as smartphone and social media obsession. I liked the fact that the book focuses on the psychological roots of addiction. Additionally, it illustrates the different paths to recovery, showing how to rebuild character through self-awareness, self-reflection, and perseverance. Breitweiser's engaging and personable writing style ensures the book appeals to all readers. Highly recommended!
