In Adventures at Breyer Woods: The Case of the Missing Necklace by Maureen Henry, Squirt and her friends spend a happy day playing in the woods, climbing and swinging from the Umbrella Tree. When they finally go home, Squirt finds she has lost her necklace. But her big brother comes to the rescue with his team of “detectives,” and the next day, they all assemble and retrace Squirt’s journey. Replaying everything Squirt and her friends did, they couldn’t find the necklace anywhere. When they finally do find it, the necklace is in the most unexpected place. Where was it? How did they find it? And what else did they find?
Adventure at Breyer Woods by Maureen Henry is a cute kids’ story with some lovely illustrations. This is not just about a fun day in the woods, though. It’s about teamwork, about coming together with your friends to achieve what you need, and the power of family and friendship. It’s also about brainstorming to solve problems and teaching kids about nature along the way. This is a great story for young minds, especially those who love getting involved in a mystery. At the end of the book are some useful, educational pages about compasses, how to use them, and how to make a time capsule. The photos help make this story real to any reader, introducing them to the places and people, even though Breyer Woods no longer exists. Kids everywhere will love this book and they’ll want to read it over and again.
