Adventures in Nursing is an informative book. LaQuana Smith divides the material into three main parts. She begins by telling the story of how she chose to study nursing and the lessons she learned in the process. LaQuana also talks about how she planned her available time and how she made the most of it. She then explains several areas of nursing and finally adds motivational activities, so readers can think about their goals and how to reach them. LaQuana has experience in medical-surgical nursing, cardiology, neurology, neurosurgery, critical care, and nursing education. She is highly qualified to explain these topics and does it most entertainingly. The book is motivational as it teaches that you can achieve any goal if you work hard and give your best.
I liked LaQuana Smith’s story because of its sincerity. She explains that, at first, she did not know what to study. The resulting insecurity is something that many young people feel, but she describes how she overcame the obstacles and gives sound advice to readers. She also talks about how to have realistic expectations and find the confidence to believe in yourself. Everything is explained in detail. The section on nursing specialties has basic descriptions, but they are a great reference to explore all study possibilities, which is why I think Adventures in Nursing is an important book. It can be stressful for a young person to decide which career to choose, so it is advisable to expand the search based on their interests.
