Author Biography

Ashley currently lives in Maine, with her husband Scott and their six children. They also have three parakeets, fish and a Newfoundland pup named Bella. Their house and hearts are full! As a family, they enjoy playing board games, hiking and snuggling in front of the fire for family movie and pizza night. Most nights you will find them at one sports complex or another cheering on the kids in hockey, soccer, wrestling, basketball, baseball and ballet! Ashley loves watching her kids in anything they do!

Things are always pretty busy; but in her not so spare time, Ashley loves to cook, bake, read, sew and crochet, as well as the occasional home improvement project.

Ashley started writing books for her children and they loved them so much that they wanted to share their books with the world.

Hopefully your children enjoy these stories as much as her children do.

In Alex's New Job by Ashley Hohmann, we follow Alex as he explores various careers, each representing a path of potential and possibility. Alex had chosen to be an astronaut. That day, he entered the kitchen to announce to his parents that he was no longer interested in being an astronaut. He began exploring various professions, including being a farmer, firefighter, sanitation worker, police officer, and mechanic. Alex’s dreams evolve as he understands the impact of each job on his community, revealing deeper questions about identity, ambition, and purpose. This thoughtfully put-together book serves as both a career journey for Alex and for the kids who read it. Kids will have the opportunity to learn about professions in society and understand their importance.

I found the book to be both heartfelt and educational. In one way, Alex mirrors each of us as children. I wanted to be several things while I was growing up, and reading this book made me feel nostalgic. In another way, Alex's New Job shows kids that they can be anything they decide to be. They're not restricted to only one career path, and they can change until they find their perfect fit. The book is structured to keep the reader engaged, moving seamlessly from one career to another while offering explanations of each as well as their relevance. No career path is depicted as inferior to another. The pace flows naturally, allowing just the right amount of time to explore each profession without dragging. Alex’s thought process feels real, fun, and interesting. The themes could revolve around pursuing passions and valuing every career. I believe children will resonate with it on a personal level. They will also be inspired to think about their careers and the broader impact of whichever one they choose in the end. Alex’s New Job is a well-written, engaging, and meaningful read that offers both education and excitement for kids.
