All Things Green by John Westren is a story on two levels. Jack Adams has a major problem to solve, which will impact his life and that of his family, who depend on him. He has promised to defend the pharmaceutical company he works for from accusations of malfeasance, but are they really innocent? He is sent a list of mysterious clues that suggest these will solve his problem, but he has no idea what they mean. Not only that, but he has just one weekend to find the evidence. He encounters numerous characters, and all but one are wildly eccentric. We are teased with the possibility that one of them is not even alive. As the puzzle slowly unravels, Jack is shown the real meaning of life and what is important through Angus, a widely travelled raconteur with an amazing knowledge of life and love. This second level of the story takes us on a journey of humankind and what is really significant away from the urban jungle.

Author John Westren takes the reader on a whirlwind journey through time with fascinating facts from history and nature in All Things Green. The visit to the museum, the art studio of discarded refuse, and the interior of a tree house are all described in such vivid detail that you are right there in the moment. He describes the eccentric characters from the homeless to the highly educated, who populate his story. Hero Jack Adams is shown truths he was unaware of, and sees life outside his urban jungle as he is shown the wonders of nature; this is the green side of life. There is lots to learn in this book, such as what is significant, and what is surface materialism. The descriptions of scenes, clothes, and beliefs permeate a well-written story that had me thinking. If you enjoy a book that teaches you and widens your horizons, you will enjoy this one.
