Amelia is an artist, but she’s a very unique kind of artist. She creates works of art using loose parts and random items she finds lying around. In Angela Odusanya’s Amelia's Loose Part Art: A Day at the Beach, the little girl turns a family day at the beach into an adventure of creativity. Only, it wasn’t the loose part art she had hoped to create at the beach. Instead, she rescued a robin’s egg that had fallen from its nest by building its very own nest. She helped a fish find its way from the beach where it was stranded back to the sea by building a lovely canal for it to swim home. She also helped a little boy with his creativity problems, quoting her father’s words, “Ideas are inside of us, and solutions are all around us.”
Angela Odusanya’s picture book, Amelia's Loose Part Art: A Day at the Beach, is a charming little story about creativity and allowing our brains to think about viable solutions to real-world problems. This is the second part in the Loose Part Art series and will encourage young readers to create their works by using whatever they find lying around. The language is simple so young readers can easily follow along and improve their writing skills. I love the way the author has used different types of fonts to add flavor to the words and the sentences are swirled around images on the page to add excitement and a touch of creativity in the presentation. The illustrations are bright, bold, and colorful and add another dimension to the story, especially illustrating Amelia’s expressions – beautiful. I loved it!
