American Calamity: The Continentals by Edward S Pocock III continues the story of Moore and his allies as they tackle a post-apocalyptic world unlike anything they ever imagined. Readers delve deeper into a fractured, post-EMP America where survival is brutal and morality is all but gone. The novel picks up with Stephen Moore navigating the chaos that erupted after North Korea's devastating electromagnetic attack. It was an event that not only crippled the nation's infrastructure but also ignited internal conflict and territorial divisions. The northeastern territory, now known as The Meg, is in the iron grip of corrupt former Vice-President Sirrah. At the same time, Moore joins a band of determined rebels fighting to reclaim a sense of unity and justice in a country on the verge of collapse. With food shortages, nuclear threats, and foreign invasion to contend with, citizens are in full survival mode. The lines between good and bad are blurred, and they must find courage and hope in a world gone mad.
Author Edward S Pocock III's action-packed story delivers a gritty vision of America’s possible future that is steeped in political disarray and absolute chaos. The story is fast-paced and vividly detailed, painting a terrifying yet believable picture of a country torn apart from within. I love how the narrative balances explosive action and questions about leadership, nationalism, and the true meaning of patriotism. Moore is a compelling protagonist, and I enjoyed how his resolve and humanity shine through even the toughest of times. Tooley was fascinating, Hernandez was incredibly dense at times (but was also at the heart of the operation), and the rest of the characters made the story interesting. The ending was mind-blowing. Nothing could have prepared me for that. American Calamity: The Continentals is a gripping story that will leave readers thinking long after the final page. I thoroughly enjoyed it and cannot recommend it enough!
