Captain Jack Dryden and his intrepid wife, Lady Daphne, accept a new mission on behalf of the Regent, Prince George, to track down an expensive artefact and the whereabouts of the man who brokered the deal in An Egyptian Affair: The Regent Mysteries Book 4 by Cheryl Bolen. A long voyage to Egypt and then excursions to Cairo and its bazaar, and Giza with the Sphinx and pyramids, keep the couple busy, especially since Lady Daphne’s younger sister has accompanied them. With the help of renowned Orientologist Stanton Maxwell, the group uncovers clues pointing them in a variety of directions, some of them quite unexpected. Connections to wealthy Englishmen and their sources in Egypt and Turkey shed some light on what might have happened, but Jack has to wonder if the past is catching up to him. Will the group survive their quest or will the greed and hatred of some villain prove to be their undoing in a strange and unique land?
Quick paced action and colorful descriptions lend tremendous interest and authenticity to the underlying romance in An Egyptian Affair: The Regent Mysteries Book 4 by Cheryl Bolen. Strong characters use all their ingenuity in trying to unravel a mystery in a faraway land where they have no real support. In a story set in Egypt in the early part of the 19th century, you are treated to a unique look at the region so full of history and intrigue and of the fascination it held for so many Europeans. A great read to remove yourself to another time and place full of romance and excitement.
