Another Bump in the Road is the third novel in the Struggles of the Women Folk series by TM Brown. This is the story of generations of black women who fought, struggled hard and clawed their way to the top just to survive and have a happy life. The story of Angel and her family continues. Miss Emily Barker is now dead and Angel is being held responsible for that. Scared and out of her mind, she runs to Georgie's home, but the police are there to take her away for questioning. In the eyes of society, she is just a black woman who apparently put a spell on a nice white lady to get her way. Now she is in jail with no hope for getting out. What is Angel going to do now? Her suffering is not going to end any time soon, even though her mother and aunt are trying their best. What more misery does fate have in store for her?
This was a short, powerful and fast-paced novel where I got to meet with the characters and simply fall in love with them. Georgie and Angel have a special connection, one that does not need any description. This pair had my heart from the very beginning. Angel had a hard time coming to terms with what was happening to her and why she was being the target of it. It was heartbreaking to read how much she suffered. Antoine was like the breath of fresh air she needed to get back on her feet and fight for herself and what was right. Although this is the third novel in a series that I haven’t read before, I had zero issues with forming a connection with the characters and getting invested in their stories. This novel proved to be a wonderful reading experience.
