Another Invisible Ghetto by Rasmenia Massoud is a thought-provoking look into the lives of a group of people trying to find their identities through various means. Ian, poor and heartbroken, makes a life-ending decision that opens a space in Jacob’s apartment building. Jacob tries to lie to Evan and Rita about the circumstances of Ian’s death when they show interest in the apartment. They end up signing a one-year lease. However, will their relationship last that long? They meet their neighbors, and Evan is no longer sure that he wants to live there. He finds Dennis off-putting. Dennis is surprised that Evan was able to get the gorgeous Rita to be his girlfriend. The story jumps from character to character like this. The author intertwines various interesting storylines in a shared setting.

I enjoyed reading Another Invisible Ghetto. Rasmenia Massoud’s writing style is very expressive, so it was easy to visualize the characters and settings. There were too many characters for me to become emotionally attached to them all, but I was especially invested in Rita, Evan, and Wade. Like Evan, I also struggled to write a novel. I greatly admired Wade’s desire to help those around him. I think everyone can find a character in this story that they relate to. The themes of family, romance, friendship, identity, and socioeconomic background are beautifully explored throughout this work. I was inspired to appreciate the people around me more and be more grateful for what I have. I recommend Another Invisible Ghetto to all readers.
