Arrow the Sky Horse: The Mystery by Melody Huttinger is an enchanting children's mystery adventure set in the vibrant landscape of 1960s Scottsdale, Arizona. The story follows Meadow Shepherd, a spirited young girl who becomes the center of a series of strange and unsettling events after her family moves to Arizona for the winter. From the very beginning, the author captivates readers with vivid descriptions of the desert setting. Meadow's adventurous spirit is evident as she races across the desert on her Arabian mare, Foxfire, with her loyal dog Kelsey in tow. Readers are transported to the arid landscape, dotted with plump barrel cacti and spidery ocotillo, which adds a rich, immersive layer to the story, setting the stage for an adventure filled with suspense and intrigue. The sudden disappearance of Arrow, the wild Andalusian stallion she calls her own, propels her into a heart-pounding quest for answers.

As Meadow adjusts to her new surroundings, Melody Huttinger skillfully introduces the central mystery. The tension and suspense are well-maintained, keeping readers engaged as they follow Meadow's journey to uncover the truth. Meadow is relatable and endearing, and her interactions with her free-spirited father and concerned mother create a dynamic household that readers can easily connect with. The inclusion of Native American heritage and cultural elements enriches the story, providing a meaningful backdrop to Meadow's adventures. The presence of Meda, the Medicine Woman, and the Indian brave adds a mystical dimension, hinting at Meadow's deeper connection to the land and its history. This captivating blend of mystery, family dynamics, and cultural heritage makes Arrow the Sky Horse: The Mystery a compelling read for young fans of adventure and suspense.
