At Risk: Passion and Peril at Sea takes place aboard a cruise ship. The story focuses on one group whose members share a dinner table and so much more. Tracy is the leading lady, traveling alone because her husband, Peter, is too busy beginning a political career to join her. Peter’s absence gives her the opportunity to become close with Marc, the entertainer at the piano bar. The very interesting and diverse bunch of dining companions include Patty and Ben, the loving couple; Jack, the bad guy, and his wife, Joanne, the unhappy and confused wife; Shirley is the loud, annoying, single lady looking for a man without much success.
All appears to be normal at the dinner table until Jack begins spouting his opinions, threats and intimidations, and proudly shows signs of being a neo-Nazi sympathizer. Tracy is the target because of her Jewish heritage and soon becomes the target. She is threatened, followed and harassed, and scared for her life. The story then takes on several plot twists that I will not spoil for you.
At Risk: Passion and Peril at Sea is filled with excitement and adventure. I found At Risk kept me involved and intrigued until the very end, with several cliff hangers that needed solving. Author Jackie Ullerich described cruising friendships very well and then added some excitement to spice it up. I recommend this book for all suspense readers; you will find anxiety, trepidation, and anticipation in every chapter.
