In Sarah Allison's children's book, Audrey-Saurus and the Bedtime Situation, Audrey likes to do things her own way. She's happy to do all her daily activities - from painting to playing tag - except getting ready for bed. Baths, hair washing, and quiet time are not her favorite things, but they're part of her nightly bedtime routine. She comes up with all the usual excuses to stay awake, but her parents finally get her to lie down with a book. Moments later, Audrey surprises them by emerging from her bedroom with a "situation." Her father advises her to "be a problem solver," so Audrey resolves to take care of it. When her parents check on her, Audrey presents a solution they were not expecting.
Sarah Allison provides young readers with a relatable character who marches to the beat of her own drum. Audrey devises a resolution with the same unique flair she applies in everyday life, and her parents celebrate her uniqueness and creativity. The illustrations by Laura Mocelin show an imaginative girl in vibrant colors, who finds creative solutions to problems. Allison urges out-of-the-box thinking and her character encourages children to be authentic. As an elementary school teacher, Allison has watched the developing minds of young children as they encounter obstacles and come up with answers. Audrey's ability to solve her problem and present it practically impressed my children. Audrey-Saurus and the Bedtime Situation is a good selection for caregivers who hope to promote problem-solving skills in their adventurous young children.
