Hadley Todd is a 35-year-old English teacher in a small town in New York. She returned to her hometown from Los Angeles, nursing a broken heart because Derek, Hadley's hot former boyfriend, left her for another woman. Hadley wants to write a play to warn young women against players like Derek. A local sports reporter with ambitions of becoming a rock singer-songwriter in the big city, Tray, attracts Hadley's attention, and she intends to observe him more closely. Hadley has connections in the LA music business so Tray asks her to help with his music career. Will Hadley succeed with her plan, or will she fall victim to a much younger player again? Babe in the Woods by Jude Hopkins gives food for thought to fans of romance, women's fiction, and psychological drama.

In Babe in the Woods, Jude Hopkins creates a main character who may irritate us with her views or choices because some of us undoubtedly recognize ourselves in Hadley. At the same time, Hadley deserves our sympathy. Yes, she is not perfect. She ignores her best friend, Neil, and tries to manipulate those who trust her. But Hadley is honest with herself, acknowledging her past mistakes. Jude makes us question Hadley's true motives until the conclusion of the novel. Hadley's story is so vivid and well-written, as if based on real events. I enjoyed every page and couldn't guess the ending of this thought-provoking novel. Jude's eloquent writing style and many surprising twists in the plotline will also appeal to those who enjoy entertaining, character-driven morality tales.
