Bag O’ Goodies by Jolly Walker Bittick is a set of poems and short stories including characters from the U.S Navy and biker gangs. Predominant themes in the book include alcoholism, friendship, and romantic encounters and relationships. All the poems and short stories seem connected. Bag O’ Goodies touches on some serious social and cultural issues, including racism, love, crime, and alcoholism, but is still lighthearted, considerate, and insightful. Bittick entertains his readers while allowing them to be introspective as they connect the dots and find the meaning in the stories. The poems are somehow connected to the short stories, making them relevant to the overall book. The characters are well-conceived and realistic. The plot is true-to-life and fluid, making Bag O’ Goodies a timeless work.

Bag O’ Goodies by Jolly Walker Bittick left me contemplating the meaning of each story. Bittick has applied great care in compiling these stories to create meaningful messages that resonate deeply with readers. My favorite short story was At The Gate because Bittick conveyed a powerful message that is highly relevant in today’s racially charged world, showing how perspective matters and that we build bridges by confronting complex topics, not by avoiding them. Bag O’ Goodies is a contemporary, rich, feel-good book that I enjoyed reading. The poems added a good sense of comic relief, with a sassy tone, providing a pleasant interlude in between the more serious and heavier short stories. Bag O’ Goodies is well-written and entertaining, making it a pleasure to read.

Bag O' Goodies is a collection of short stories and poems penned by Jolly Walker Bittick. In "Calvert County Detention", a loner sees his lucky evening turn into a complete disaster after being forced to spend the night in the county jail due to drunk driving. "Old Man Digby" follows a group of neighborhood kids who make the horrible mistake of spying on a creepy old man. In "At The Gate, Parts I and II", an Aviation Mechanic of the US Navy, doing a stint as a gate guard, unwittingly gets into a heated skirmish with a fellow soldier, only to be made aware of his own preconceived biases. "Blue Ridge Riders, Parts I, II, and III" follows a young man's adventures on the road as he is initiated into a motorcycle club.

A captivating collection of slice-of-life tales complemented by some vibrant poems in between makes Bag O' Goodies the perfect book to spend your evening with. Author Jolly Walker Bittick draws from real-life anecdotes to tell an engaging set of tales full of humor, charm, and thought-provoking ideas and themes. The characters feel grounded and believable, and the stories are set in real-life environments. Although I enjoyed them all, "At The Gate, Parts I and II" were my personal favorites amongst the bunch. Apart from functioning as interludes between each story, the poems add a bit of color to the narrative, making it dynamic and all the more enjoyable to read. If you're itching for some slice-of-life stories, Bag O' Goodies is just the book for you.

Bag O’ Goodies by Jolly Walker Bittick is a collection of poems and short stories all intertwined in this little book. Themes differ and change throughout and you never know what you’ll be reading about. This collection has some interesting stories to share as well as poetry that has a unique flair. This Bag O’ Goodies surely is filled with some interesting treats for any reader who is willing to take a peek.

Bag O’ Goodies by Jolly Walker Bittick was honestly a novel experience. The unique tone and themes of the poems almost seemed similar to that of rap and the short stories held nothing back either. It is rare to find an author who is willing to write in such a bold and outgoing manner and this made it very refreshing. I found myself laughing quite a bit at ‘A Short Poem’ because frankly, I wasn’t expecting it to be what it was. Much like this poem, the entire collection catches you off guard at times; however, this makes it so much more interesting to read. There never seems to be a dull moment while going through this collection. Right until the end with an oddly named poem, ‘Farewell and Farts,’ you are left with a sense of mirth as you end off this unique little book with one last laugh. Although I don’t know if this book would be for everyone, I found it to be very entertaining and would definitely recommend it to those with a good sense of humor.
