Bailey and Bambaloo in The Great Chocolate Chip Cookie Caper by David Lasaine is a funny animal adventure told by the dogs themselves. Bailey and Bambaloo are rescued emotional support dogs who share an apartment with Poppy, who spoils them with homemade breakfasts and plenty of tummy rubs. When Poppy bakes a batch of his famous chocolate chip cookies and heads out for Taco Tuesday, the smell drifting from the kitchen is more than the two dogs can handle. Poppy has a lesson planned for when he gets home, but it doesn’t go the way he expects, and before long the dogs find themselves in the middle of a caper that gets bigger and wilder with every page.

Bailey and Bambaloo in The Great Chocolate Chip Cookie Caper by David Lasaine starts cozy and turns into complete chaos. It’s told in the dogs’ own voices, with their private thoughts in italics and sound effects like 'SPLAG' that are great fun to read out loud. The pace is quick, and each new scene is more ridiculous than the last, so there’s no time to get bored. Underneath the slapstick, David shows both dogs' difficult pasts, and the way Poppy’s patience and love help them heal adds a lot of warmth, with themes of rescue, second chances, and trust. Bailey and Bambaloo take turns narrating, and the switch isn’t always obvious, so younger readers may need a little help keeping track of who is speaking. Parents should know the dogs get up to some very naughty deeds along the way, but it’s all cartoon silliness. A fun pick for dog-loving families and kids who enjoy funny animal stories.
