Barkley is a loving sheepdog with a big heart. He was always there when someone needed help, especially his friends. In Lilyann Rosewood’s Barkley’s Big Heart, Barkley helps his friend, a sad rabbit, Pip, find his treasured carrot. “We’ll never give up,” he assures Pip. Barkley also helps Molly, the deer, find her special scarf. When thanked for his help, Barkley tells them, “I’m happy to help. That’s what friends do.” Barkley is all about being a good friend who cares for and helps others. As he continues helping, he spreads his joy and love, “making the world a brighter, happier place.” We could all learn a lot from Barkley and his big heart.
Lilyann Rosewood’s picture book, Barkley’s Big Heart: A Story of Love and Healing, is one of Barkley’s Heartfelt Adventures. Told in simple language so young readers can easily follow along and improve their reading skills, the plot develops with care as Barkley helps one friend after another. The illustrations by the author are superb, bright, and colorful. Like the much-loved Beatrice Potter Peter Rabbit stories, Barkley will warm the hearts of young and old alike. Also like the Potter books, this is a beautiful book, one to be cherished and enjoyed frequently. It’s a great little treasure to teach young readers about empathy and compassion and how helping others can warm our hearts and bring us joy. Even a simple act of kindness can go a long way to making this a better world. Well done! Loved it.
