Barney is forced to resign from his public service job and enter the private business sector to pay his mortgage and survive. His arrival for an interview for a private sector position he knows “nothing about with a company I’ve never heard of…” kicks off a riotous story of intrigue, missteps, office politics, and love at first sight; wrapped in a beautifully packaged story filled with humor and fun.

I love the subtle, ironic, dry and/or often sardonic humor used by United Kingdom, Australian and New Zealand writers. I also like real characters; actors who are not bigger than life but whose innate self-deprecating responses to life make them memorable, and yes, even lovable. They who are unable to leap tall buildings in a single bound; those who are slower than a musket shot and less powerful than a ‘Lego’ battery powered train.

I loved Barney by Guy Sigley. In his first full-length novel, Mr. Sigley has created a character in Barney Elvis Conroy that will entertain thousands, if not millions, of readers for years to come. Backed by a cast of characters that will consistently remind you of someone you know, Barney stumbles his way through life, love, and the pursuit of finding himself in unforgettable fashion. I can’t write enough great words about Guy Sigley and his book, Barney, so perhaps this is a time for “less is more.” Please note — this is a funny story you’ll not want to miss and an author you’ll want to remember.
