Turn self-criticism into self-kindness using V.K. Munn’s Be Kind to You: The Quiet Practice of Self-Compassion. Munn emphasizes that mistakes, grief, and difficult days are part of life and deserve kindness. This guide covers how to forgive yourself, take time to rest, deal with guilt, and much more. It explains how using affirmations like "I choose peace in this moment" can help the reader gain the best mindset. The book also has relaxation exercises, like imagining a gentle light filling the body with calm. The author doesn’t just give advice, she shares a painful time in her life, and the role faith and self-compassion played in her healing process. Toward the end, there are practical worksheets and space for personal reflections for readers to write down their thoughts. Lastly, there's a sneak peek at a companion journal, Self-Care for Women.
Be Kind to You by V.K. Munn is an encouraging reminder that we all deserve the same kindness we so easily want to give others. The affirmations sprinkled throughout are the best parts of the book. My favorite is "I choose kindness with each breath." It reminds me of what we teach in the classroom I work in with Kindergarten students. I find the reflection worksheets near the end handy since I like to jot down my thoughts. "Today Is a New Beginning" is the best one, in my opinion. If I were filling it out, I’d probably write about not being so hard on myself when I make mistakes or think I’ve let someone down. The writing is clear and easy to follow. It’s a simple, quick read that can be done in a day or spread out over time. What stood out to me most was the calming effect this book had on me. I think that's one of its greatest strengths. Anyone looking for a good personal growth book with guided reflections and uplifting self-care advice will want to pick this one up.
