Michael Wong's children's picture book, Be The Best You Can Be, begins with direct congratulations to the child reader and an initial boost of confidence that they can accomplish great things. From there, via single-page attestations, the book uplifts the child with verses to boost self-esteem and encourage them to believe in themselves and accomplish their dreams. Each page also presents illustrations showing children fulfilling their goals alongside an array of adorable dogs and other special characters who are later revealed to be famous people. An interactive section at the back of the book enables the child to think about and discuss the book's messaging and learn about those inspirational role models.

Be The Best You Can Be is a delightfully written and stunningly illustrated children's book. Michael Wong presents an engaging tale that differs from most children's books in its direct second-person dialog. The book instead provides direct messages to the child which, if read aloud, would seemingly come from the parent or caregiver's voice as loving guidance to inspire the child to follow their dreams. The verses show a blend of life accomplishments by teaching the importance of pushing ahead while respecting others. Following the supportive and gentle words, the book provides interactive questions and educational information about real inspirational people. The illustrations by Eugene Smolenceva are gorgeous with heartwarming backgrounds and beautifully expressive children's faces representing full inclusivity. This book is a loving addition to any child's bedtime ritual and could be read again and again to instill positive messages.
