Robert Welton’s Be Your Own Light covers 14 different subjects regarding life and uses an array of people’s quotes on the subjects. You will find yourself among scholars, sages, musicians and even comedians. The author presents many views on all the subjects in his book, but as you read he makes you think about each passage and quote and of the person who said the quote. As you read, you find yourself agreeing with the quotes. Robert Welton adds a little information on the speaker of each quote, giving you a better understanding of who said what and when.
The cover of the book did not draw me into it, but once I began reading, I found I could not put it down. The book offers enlightenment of thought, the idea that many people may think the same in a different way or think differently on the same idea. Just when you thought you had a concrete grasp on a subject, the author presents you with a different perspective that inspires you to reflect more - from enlightenment, to love, life, God, and the universe. This book has relevance for readers of all ages. It is a good reference book to use when just the right phrase is needed on a subject. The author makes you realize the similarities of thinking of vastly different people and how close we really are in thoughts and actions. Be forewarned: once you have picked up this book, it is hard to put down and you will find yourself nodding in agreement many times over.
