Because of Amy: How My Daughter’s Death Gave Me Life (And How Your Pain Can Free You Too) by Rita Henry is a well-written book that empowers readers to heal from their pain, trauma, and suffering and take personal responsibility for their lives. This book is divided into five parts. It begins with a peek into Rita’s background and childhood. She describes the impact of growing up in a dysfunctional home, experiencing abandonment and sexual harassment, the pain and false beliefs she carried into marriage, and how Amy’s death changed her life for good. Rita’s story further emphasizes the need for individuals to be patient and permit themselves to face pain, use relationships to heal and grow while keeping the lessons, and let go of the pain.

I felt every bit of emotion as I read this story, which proves that Rita is a skilled writer and an exceptional storyteller. I commend the author for her courage in sharing her story and for using this book to enlighten readers about the impact of family crises and dysfunctional homes on child development. The writing is detailed, straightforward, engaging, and easy to comprehend. The story is also well-organized and paced. I am impressed that, beyond just writing her story, Rita includes a link to an additional resource to help readers deal with their trauma and pain. This book features themes of self-love, dealing with grief, domestic abuse, and more. I would recommend Because of Amy by Rita Henry to anyone struggling with grief, as well as trauma or pain from their past.
