When a pair of detectives attempt to prove the innocence of their client's relative, they get caught up in the Whitechapel serial killer case in the thrilling historical mystery, Bedeviled by Her Suspicions: Zane Brothers Detective Series Book 2 by Patricia Catacalos. Isabel Hayne's cousin, Thomas Cutbush, has changed. Where he was once gentle, his behavior is now erratic with violent tendencies. Isabel worries he may be the serial killer, Leather Apron, or the Whitechapel killer. Resolving to prove Thomas innocent, Isabel hires Evan and Noah of the Zane Detective Agency. However, the deeper they dig into Thomas's life, the more complicated the case becomes. In the meantime, the serial killer continues his murder spree, and Thomas becomes more aggressive and secretive by the day. When Thomas threatens Isabel, Noah insists that she and her mother move out of the Cutbush house to keep them safe. Is it possible that Thomas is the Whitechapel killer named Jack the Ripper? Or is he going mad?
Set in Victorian-era England, Bedeviled by Her Suspicions by Patricia Catacalos is a thrilling murder mystery. Filled with suspense, drama, and intrigue, it is a spectacular historical suspense novel. The history behind the fictional account of the story is pretty accurate, making it easy to get caught up in the emotions and passions of the characters. Superbly written, the story has a perfect story arc and well-rounded characters. I am now a fan of the Zane Brothers Detective series, and I will be reading more of their escapades. Even though it is the second book in the series, it did very well as a standalone. Bedeviled by Her Suspicions is phenomenal, and I recommend it to everyone who loves crime thrillers based on historical events with a hint of romance.
