Behind Prison Bars by Sandra L Olson is a riveting psychological thriller with an engrossing plot and compelling characters. Samantha Owens eagerly applies for and gets the job to fill the vacant position in the State of Texas prison as a Registered Nurse with obstetrical experience. She is supposed to work in the OB clinic, but after her unusual orientation, she finds herself working night shift and responsible for more than 900 female inmates. The work is challenging, more so because of the poor staffing, so she has to deal with a variety of issues every night. But when a nurse goes missing, she uncovers a very dangerous and sinister plot carried out by doctors, a plot that could put everyone’s life in extreme danger. She could be the next victim and she has to act fast before things turn nasty for her.
This is an audio book that is beautifully narrated and readers will love the way the character development comes across. For instance, when I learned about Amy Graham, I knew instantly that no one would like to be around this character, not if they are sane and normal. The narrative voice is awesome and Sandra L Olson’s prose is neat, well-polished and very accessible. Readers will love the narrative, the wonderful drama, and the exceptional read. I listened to this audio nonstop and from the very moment I started listening to the story, I knew I couldn’t stop, because it is crafted to keep the reader looking for more dramatic moments. Behind Prison Bars is a very satisfying story featuring a powerful conflict, a woman fighting to hold onto her professed values, and a world that reeks with evil. The denouement was sheer delight.
